Mr. Poulson’s Grading Policies
- Quizzes and Quick Checks
- I will reset a quiz or quick check one time to allow you to retake it. Send me a webmail and let me know unit and lesson number to reset.
- Quizzes and quick checks can also be fixed by doing corrections if you don't want to retake it. See how to do corrections under 'Unit tests' below, or visit this page.
- Portfolios
- If you would like to raise your grade on a portfolio assignment, send me the updated assignment via Webmail.
- Unit tests
- I do not reset unit tests. Instead, send me corrections. To do corrections, send me a webmail with these things:
- The correct answer for the questions you missed (and only the ones you missed).
- For non-essay questions, include an explanation about the correct answer. The explanation needs to be better than "cuz that's the right answer" or "I got it wrong, it was actually A." You need to demonstrate that you understand why that's the answer. Corrections that are sent to me without adequate explanations will not be fixed. See examples of how to do explanations here.
- Essay questions and discussions need to be completely re-done, not just have something tacked onto it.
- Be sure to reference which test and question you are sending the answer for.
- I do not reset unit tests. Instead, send me corrections. To do corrections, send me a webmail with these things:
- Discussions
- Discussion assignments are graded both on the answer you put in (by creating a new conversation) and on the responses you give to other students’ conversations.
- Your responses need to add depth to the discussion, not just simple statements like ‘you’re right’ or ‘I disagree.’
- If you add to a conversation after your discussion assignment has been graded, you can webmail me that you updated it.
- Live Lesson Participation
- Certain behaviors will not be tolerated during Live Lessons. These include, but may not be limited to:
- Vulgar, offensive, or abusive language (this includes making fun of people, even if you’re just trying to be ‘funny’).
- Spamming the chat box with nonsense.
- Posting links in the chat box.
- Basically anything that detracts from the intended purpose of the lesson.
- Certain behaviors will not be tolerated during Live Lessons. These include, but may not be limited to:
- Modifying Assessments
- If you would like to complete an assignment in a different format than the lesson specifies (for example, if you want to give a report by submitting an oral recording rather than writing it), let me know beforehand so I can OK it.
