How To Succeed In My Class
1: Finish overdue lessons
2: Do corrections
• Send me a webmail, or use this form, with correct answers for the questions you missed. If you use the form, you can download a copy of it and webmail it to me or just share it with me.
• Include an explanation of why that answer is the right one, or why the answer you put was wrong. • This explanation doesn't have to be long; it just needs to show that you understand the question and the answer. • It has to be more than just re-stating the answer or question, or telling me where you found the answer. • Click here for examples of what are and are not good explanations. • When doing corrections, focus on quizzes, tests, and labs first. Quick checks don't have as big an effect on your grade so those are a lower priority. |
3: Get help!
• I can’t magically know when you’re struggling with something. If you don’t ask for help, odds are you won’t get any.
• Call me or send me a webmail. Find my contact info here. • For Live Lessons about the portfolio assignments, visit the Earth Science message board. |
More tips
- Don’t skip the essay questions in tests.
- Even if you get it wrong I’ll usually give you at least one point for trying (this doesn't count if you just put in nonsense answers—you have to genuinely try).
- Don’t try to skip assignments.
- Even turning in something incomplete is better than turning in nothing.
- Don’t turn in assignments blank.
- That’s as bad as not doing them at all.
- Don’t plagiarize!
- That’s even worse than turning in nothing.
- Students have been withdrawn from this school for plagiarizing!
- Minimize distractions.
- Set aside time for school, and ONLY school! Don’t do anything else during that time.
- Ask for help! I can’t emphasize this point enough.
